Happy Easter!

Today was a great day full of fun stuff for me to do. I got to watch back-to-back episodes of Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and eat hash browns that Grandpa brought home from his Saturday morning stop at McDonald’s. Then, Grandma and I went to the bank, where I got to sit next to a really big bear and the teller gave me two stickers to wear on my shirt. She also took me to the grocery store to get eggies so we could dye them later… of course, I was given a cookie at the bakery while we were there.

When I came home, Grandpa was just about to use his big air compressor to fill his truck tires. Then, Mom and I had lunch (lil’ Smokies wrapped in crescent rolls, and grapes). After lunch, I got to watch Grandpa use the rototiller in the garden to dig up all the dirt real good. Next weekend, we’ll plant corn and tomatoes and carrots and other stuff.

This afternoon, Grandma took me to Auntie Valeta’s house where I got to color eggs for Easter with Cousin Riley. I had so much fun… and Riley gave me two of his toys to take home — a play saxophone and a puffy Cars chair! When we came home, Grandpa was using a rifle to aim at a target he’d stapled to a Redwood tree in our backyard. He decided to put it away when I got there, but one day my dad will teach me to use a gun properly. Mommy tells me how neat it would be if I chose to become a Policeman, or a Marine, or a Fireman, or a mail delivery man, or a baker, or whatever I want to be!

We had KFC for dinner and I got to play Play-Doh with Mom for a long time. I didn’t see Baby Cody much today because he was sleeping all the time. He’s got a cold just like me. Mom says we probably won’t make it to Easter Sunday School tomorrow and I can tell she’s pretty sad about that. But it’s ok. A few days ago, when she was tucking me in, I decided to tell her “I want to know God.” I have a feeling she and Daddy will help me know God every day, and so Easter will be one more very special day to know Him more.

Nicholas has a Mickey Mouse bank that someone brought him from Disneyland. I started giving him a few coins for being helpful and stuff like that. Tonight we were talking about it as he was winding down before bedtime. I asked him what he would buy with his bank money. He apparantly has a list going. It includes new doors for his room, a new chalkboard, more dinosaurs, some new shoes, a new garbage can and a new bag for it. Its nice to dream I guess.

A little later, I asked him if he would like to pray. When he said yes, I asked him who he would like to pray for. Instead, he just started praying… “Dear Jesus, thank you for doggies and Leazas (his imaginary friend we think) and for kitties and for windows and for bones and bones for kitties too”. After a little pause, I asked if that was it, to which he said, “Jesus name, amen”.

He never ceases to amuse and amaze me.

We let Nicholas hold Cody for the first time last night. He was eager to do it until it came time. Then, probably because of our concern for him being careful, he got a little apprehensive about the thought of it. We finally convinced him that everything would be fine. I took about 30 shots and these are some of our favorites. You can tell that Nicholas is very excited and happy. Cody seemed a bit indifferent to the whole process…

I can’t count the number of times I say that to Nicholas every day. It’s not that he’s overly clumsy, he just gets so wrapped up in whatever he’s doing that he sometimes forgets other things, like walking and not running into walls. I can’t stand to see him get hurt, but I know its just part of being a little boy.

Today he was playing on a rocking horse. Once I got him settled in, I walked a few feet away and stood on a little concrete slab to watch him. He looked up from riding and said to me, “you be careful, don’t fall and break yourself”. OK son, thanks for the reminder.
